On Monday, Sept. 18, our club will visit the Sam H. Hobbs Water Treatment Plant located on Normandale Boulevard for a Vocational Visit. You might remember that Bloomington’s tap water was deemed the “best of the best” in 2016 by Avista Technologies, Inc.
We will begin our meeting at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 9201 Normandale Blvd. (952) 831-5276. There we will have a short meeting and hear a utilities presentation describing the history and interesting details of Bloomington’s water plant. Then, we will divide into groups and walk over to the plant for a short tour.
The City of Bloomington utilities employs more than 50 people to run the water treatment plant, maintain the water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems, perform field maintenance, serve customers and administer the utilities.
Directions to St. Michael’s: Take Normandale Boulevard to 94th. Turn East on Poplar Bridge Road. (94th goes west from the same intersection) Turn on the first left, (north) into the St. Michael’s driveway, and park in the lot. We will have lunch in the Church, and walk to the treatment plant.
